The Japan disasters

(I bet people would be expecting this post from me...well, sorry for being late.)

So we all know the terrible things that have happened in Japan. The earthquake, tsunami, eruptions and now a nuclear crisis. As we all know the situation over there now, I shall not repeat what the news is telling you.

The point of this post is to talk about the reactions the rest of the world have about the Japan disasters. I think we are all too caught up in what has happened in Japan to notice what is or has happened in other parts of the world. Has everyone forgotten the flood in Australia, earthquake in New Zealand and earthquake in China? Who is going to care about them?I think having such a short attention span is one of the human race's terrible flaws. We get caught up in something so big or unexpected that we immediately lose interest in other things. No one thinks about how much help is needed in rebuilding a country since all the attention is used up the moment the disaster struck.

Yes, I agree about the fact that the situation is very bad in Japan, but I think everyone's lives are equally important. When I see the "pray for Japan" stuff going around on the internet, its makes me think who is actually praying for the rest of the world. And now Myanmar is hit by an earthquake too...wonder how are people going to react towards this.

With all the attention on Japan, people are all contributing to the mass panic that has set in. Its funny, because the Japanese themselves were relatively rational about what happened. I mean, news footage on the earthquake and tsunami were mostly about the extent of damage and scenes of people breaking down were far less, as compared to other disaster news. I salute the Japanese for this. Disasters have happened, the Japanese were prepared for it (building quake proof buildings, being mentally prepared, etc.), and have taken it as a matter of fact. Instead of wallowing, the people are helping each other to manage and survive. If the Japanese can deal with this, why is the whole world panicking like hell!?

And it doesn't help much when the media has been spamming news and footage of the tsunami and earthquake. What's the use of constantly repeating same things without providing new information, only succeeding in scaring the public? There are people who have family and friends over in Japan, you know. Why make the situation worse by making them worry excessively?

Don't get this wrong, I love Japan and I'm touched that everyone (including China and the yakuza) is banding together to help the country. But instead of contributing to the hysteria, we can do much more by helping using practical means like donating (even thou I have a feeling they can take care of themselves economically). It'll also be nice to see people caring more about the other disaster hit areas too. Hrm.

MMORPG (?!) and random videos

Hello everyone.
At this point of time, I am as busy as hell and very stressed out over the tests + presentation combo that is coming in about a week's time.

Current HP: 60%

Current MP: 40% (NO COFFEE LIAO!)

Current EXP: 0.00% (Because I dunno how to tackle UGC. DIE.)

I actually wanted to add stuff like job and skill lvls and stuff, but my sister just told me off: "go and do your work lah! still blog! stuuuuupiiddd ah". So yeah, she had a point. Maybe next time. It'll be fun. But before I go back to doing my stuff, I shall quickly continue with the randomness (which you guys should be quite used to by now) and share some utube videoooooosss.

"I Like It"by Enrique Iglesias.
Hear him say "walao walao" at 0:08. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

"Who You Are" (live) by Jessie J
She has a freaking amazing voice! I could hardly believe its live when I heard this...summore its at the subway station O.o Will definitely get my hands on her album when its out :B

"Do it like a Dude" (acoustic) by Jessie J
Ok, this song is like...hrm. You could say the song is explicit, especially if watched the original video. This is the acoustic version, which I prefer. I think it really shows off her voice :D Check out her other acoustic videos!

"MAGIC" by Seungri
Omg, this track is so addictive. I admit I didn't think his minialbum will be very good. But surprisingly, its pretty decent! I'm spamming this song lately...its kinda unhealthy but screw healthy psyches. I like "White Love" too, hehehe.

Right so this ends my very random post.
Man, and I was hoping that it'll be shorter :/

KOREAAAAAA

OMGYESITSANEWPOST!

Yeah well, it has been a very busy holiday indeed. Amidst various social activities and celebrations, I also travelled to KOREEEAAAAAA. Most people probably don't even know that I've left and came back until I'm actually back (read: Ronald Toh is a very bad friend). Told you guys that I'd have a very promising career as a ninja. :B

Since it shall take very long to write me adventures in Kimchi Land, I will summarize some highlights/observations/ happenings from my trip:

1. IT WAS FREAKING COLD.
Like, really really -14 degree Celsius average kinda cold. Especially in Jeju, where we are surrounded by water, the cold wind blows like nobody's business (although it truly is nobody's business). It was so cold that my fingers stung immediately when I wasn't wearing gloves...ok, I know you probably can't imagine it but trust me on this. While we are on this topic, I shall announce that my suspicions of my sister being an alien is once again confirmed. That ET only wore a normal shirt, a cardigan, a usual winter jacket (without zipping the jacket) and jeans...without feeling very cold. Walao, and I was bundled in layers of clothes and equipped with scarves and gloves. D:

OH YEAH BTW:

BOOTS WITH THE FUR! HAHAHAHAHAHA! XD

2. Koreans really love their kimchi and meat.
I know this because we had both foods in EVERY MEAL. I know right. :/

3. Korea has lots of amusement parks.
I think we visited 2 or 3 of them in 7 days. =.=
Oh yeah, and this leads me to my next point...

4. 360 DEGREE ROLLER COASTERS ARE FREAKING AWESOME.
I rode my first 360 degree ride there. The experience itself was super scary, I didn't know how I got the nerves to go for it without much persuasion from my relatives, considering how much of a coward I am. My aunt videoed our daring stunt...the one sitting on the left is my dear cousin and the one on the right is yours truly. I wonder if you can hear it, but I was screaming "OH SHIT, OH SHIT, SHIT, OH SHIT" (or a similar order) as the roller coaster was slowlyyyyyy climbing up the stupid peak before launching us off at a freakish speed.

It took all the guts and adrenaline.

At the end of the ride, I had jelly legs and a laughing fit. I dunno if it was out of relief that we didn't die or if it was because we couldn't believe that we even attempted the ride, but me and my cousin just kept on laughing and laughing and laughing, hurrhurr.

5. Korean spoons are one of the prettiest spoons I've seen.
I swear.

6. Myeongdong, my regret.
Wish I could have more time to shop there...so much stuff to check out!! The skincare/cosmetic products are very very cheap (cos the Koreans are very particular about looks...as we all know). The face masks are 1/3 of the price in Singapore...now I greatly regret not buying the 100 mask pack. T.T

Also saw many Korean stars there...well at least their life sized posters...

Life sized eye candy @A@

*fangirl scream*

HAHAHAHAHA, yeah, you'd wish he was actually on sale :D

7. Korean boots, my regret too.
Dammit, why do the biggest shoe size in Korea have to be a size smaller than mine?! The boots were so niceeeee T.T

8. I love Korean seaweed and chocolates.
And so do my colleagues. :D

9. Skiing is a terribly challenging sport.
It was damn difficult to stop the skis, and it didn't make things better when I was screaming away while silently praying that I would at least survive if I ever crashed headfirst into the barriers (thank god I didn't). And its really stupid that you had to walk up again if you wanted to ski down. Ok, now you think that its perfectly logical to do so, try walking sideways with heavy skis painstakingly up the slippery slope (hurrhurr, pun not intended). In the end we gave up, took off the skis and carried them up the slope instead. And if you think carrying the heavy skis with the two poles with two hands is no sweat, I would really like to see you try. Conclusion: Skiiing--not for the weak-hearted nor weak-limbed.

10. Singaporean Sua Kus and the snow.
Snow was all around us, but it was falling snow that brought out the sua kus in all of us. We saw tiny wisps of snow during one night of our trip, but because it barely had an impact, it doesn't count. The real thing came during the last day of our trip (lucky!!!)...although it might mean nothing to the locals since it wasn't very heavy snow, it was heavy enough to elicit "wahhhh" sounds from everyone in the tour group.

Ok, you can't really see it, but the snow was there!!

11. It was great to travel with my family.
Especially when everyone is so damn funny. My aunt was the funniest...apparently she brought carrots to Korea. For us to build snowmen. Brought a total of 6 of them summore, since there were 6 of us, LOL. Alot of jokes and laughter along the way, hehe. I think we're the weirdest and noisiest family in the tour. The laughter doesn't stop even during meals, hoho :D

12. Our imaginary friends came along too!
Everyone, meet the creepy/legendary Alice! And we got Andy, Bernard and Betty on the team now...

The one who started it all...that's Alice and Andy with her

Me with my sis' friends :S

Because imaginary friends need love too :)

YAY!

Man, I look ridiculously happy

In case you were wondering, my imaginary friend Bob didn't join in cos can't take the cold due to his bad bones...Lynette's heartless breaking of his spine 2 yrs ago was what did it :/

Ok, I know I probably left out some stuff I wanted to write here and there. But since I can't remember them now, I shall leave this post as it is. I went to many places and saw many things there...too many to write them all. Haha, and basically acted like a pig there--eat a super big meal (AND WITH GUSTO!), go to the coach to sleep, wake up to play, and start the cycle again. Pretty enjoyable, hoho. I'd really like to visit again, preferably during a less harsh season!! Apparently my cousin, aunt and mum want to head back again too, lol!

S.E.O.U.L totally man :D

Clifford's exhibition and 4e5 meet up

Today I met up with Kaz(Thanks so much for the notebook! Sorry I'm late!), Fonna (I'm sorry for being late too!!!), Fik and Melanie and visited Clifford's art exhibition.

The art exhibition was pretty interesting...I see some really great work from the students at PJC. And their prep work is really impressive. I like how they added various elements and experimented with different techniques in it. Totally jealous that they get to do fun stuff while I'm stuck doing mundane things in school. Urghhh, I miss doing art and attending art class with the art people (whoa, did I just use the word "art" 3 times in a sentence?!). I find that I'm not motivated to draw lately. I mean, I like drawing and I still doodle alot, but I don't find the passion in doing it anymore. Perhaps its the lack of improvements, perhaps its the environment, or perhaps its just the lack of inspiration. I feel so empty :/ Sigh, I hope this is just some phase that I'm going through.

But other than the exhibition, it was really great to be able to meet up with 4e5 friends again. Haha, chatted alot about many things. I think if people listen in to our conversations, they might be shocked or get uncomfortable about the stuff we share (ok, its more of the stuff Fik shares actually, hahahaha!). Fik is the same as always...he's in the boss level now, too much detail! Kaz still thinks the best of this motley crew (I'm humbled). Fonna retains the title of "The Nicest" *hugs*. And its been so long since I went out with Melanie! But really, its so good to see each other again...they're awesome. :D

Man, and I can't wait for January! There's going to be exciting stuff happening. Hope that everything will run smoothly for Fonna and Kaz! And I should really start saving now...

Mdm Kwa Geok Choo (1920-2010)

I know I'm late but my condolences to the Lee family.
Rest in peace, Madam Kwa Geok Choo.

Philo and Bieber

HOW.
Philosophy how. Fail already lo.

Tell me, how am I supposed to scrape a usual B when I'm just getting 2 or 3 points upon 5 per quiz? If I'm just passing all the assessments I'll probably get a D or something. The latest mid terms and Reading Response is this bloody piece of shit. SO DIFFICULT!!!!

But if we ignore the assessments, the thing that demoralizes me is that I don't understand the readings at all. How am I supposed to go take the test when I don't even know what whoever is talking about. Its like some kamikaze mission without ammo. The philosophers write so much, but whats the point when you can't make people get your idea. Sometimes I think that's their aim you know...try to confuse and crap their way out.

Oh but moving on to something random.
One kid at work coyly told my coworker that she "listens to Justin Bieber". I almost died when I heard this because it was so very disgusting (both the way she said it and the fact that she said it). And I bet she listens to all the bad songs from him (Baby baby baby oooohhh. Ew, wth).

Don't get me wrong, there are still pretty decent songs from him, namely this:

I think its not bad. Especially since he sounds like a backing singer for Jessica Jarrell when its supposed to be a duet *shrug*

Ahahaha, I like how its sounds like they're singing "lightsaber" instead of "livesaver". So it goes:

So throw yourself out to me, my lightsaber
Lightsaber oh lightsaber
My lightsaber
Lightsaber oh lightsaber
Whoa wow

*Cackles*
And as for the girl, I sincerely hope that this is just a phase. D:

(ooh! John Lennon on Google!)

Here's to the kids

Here's to the kids.
The kids who would rather spend their night with a bottle of coke & Patrick or Sonny playing on their headphones than go to some vomit-stained high school party.
Here's to the kids whose 11:11 wish was wasted on one person who will never be there for them.
Here's to the kids whose idea of a good night is sitting on the hood of a car, watching the stars.
Here's to the kids who never were too good at life, but still were wicked cool.
Here's to the kids who listened to Fall Out boy and Hawthorne Heights before they were on MTV...and blame MTV for ruining their life.
Here's to the kids who care more about the music than the haircuts.
Here's to the kids who have crushes on a stupid lush.
Here's to the kids who hum "A Little Less 16 Candles, A Little More Touch Me" when they're stuck home, dateless, on a Saturday night.
Here's to the kids who have ever had a broken heart from someone who didn't even know they existed.
Here's to the kids who have read The Perks of Being a Wallflower & didn't feel so alone after doing so.
Here's to the kids who spend their days in photobooths with their best friend(s).
Here's to the kids who are straight up smartasses & just don't care.
Here's to the kids who speak their mind.
Here's to the kids who consider screamo their lullaby for going to sleep.
Here's to the kids who second guess themselves on everything they do.
Here's to the kids who will never have 100 percent confidence in anything they do, and to the kids who are okay with that.
Here's to the kids.

This one's not for the kids,
who always get what they want,
But for the ones who never had it at all.
It's not for the ones who never got caught,
But for the ones who always try and fall.
This one's for the kids who didnt make it,
We were the kids who never made it.
The Overcast girls and the Underdog Boys.
Not for the kids who had all their joys.
This one's for the kids who never faked it.
We're the kids who didn't make it.
They say "Breaking hearts is what we do best,"
And, "We'll make your heart be ripped of your chest"
The only heart that I broke was mine,
When I got My Hopes up too too high.
We were the kids who didnt make it.
We are the kids who never made it.

Miracles do happen

YEP, I FINALLY CHANGED MY BLOGSKIN. (read: blog post title)

Was forced to change it since the background of my previous skin suddenly disappeared...and after browsing through numerous skins, I settled on this one. Hope you guys will like it :D

But as you can see, there's a lot of tweaking and editing to be done. I'm thinking about the color of the tagboard, may change the headings abit, still working on the profile thing (man, I don't really like blogger's profile page), thinking if I should add in the archive, etc, etc...plus I'm unsure about the blog title and such. Hmm, I'll do some small and probably insignificant changes here and there as I go along. Although there's a high chance that I may totally give up (html makes me eyes hurt), but we shall see how it goes, eh?

Man, blogger seriously doesn't have very nice skins. Wordpress has all the good stuff. Plus I prefer Wordpress' comment interface since it makes everything more comfortable for me. So I got rid of the blogger comments and just pasted the tagboard here, now everyone's happppppyyyy. :)

Oh, and I'm getting a Facebook account. (read: blog post title AGAIN)
Yeah, I know. I was gonna stay Facebook free, but reality caught up with me. My lecturer for the music mod is gonna use FB alot for our class (cos he thinks the UBlearns platform sucks, to which I agree) and thus I'm stuck in this situation. Man, and my resistance was still going strong!!! DX

Oh well. Come on people, bring on the stalking!
